Innovative works done by S&T department in Raipur division:
A)Innovation by S&T Department in Raipur division of SECR by introduction of auto switching arrangement between channels at Non-Rail head Passenger Reservation System (PRS) at Baloda Bazaar to improve reliability:
A non-Rail head post Passenger Reservation System (PRS) is functional at Baloda Bazaar in Raipur division which is maintained by S&T (Telecom) staff of Raipur division.
Two channels viz. 2 Mbps Reliance channel and 64 Kbps BSNL channel were already provided for functioning of this PRS.
But, earlier it was seen that due to non-availability of auto switching arrangement; PRS system completely failed in case of failure of any one channel till restoration.
S&T staff had to move from Raipur to Baloda Bazaar (which is about 85 Km from Raipur) for manual switching of PRS channel which took at least three hours for staff to reach Baloda Bazaar from Raipur.
To overcome this situation; a Non-IP Based Auto Switching MUX (Next Generation Multiplexer CYGNUS 711) with variable band width from 64 Kbps to 2 Mbps has been introduced which ensures auto switching from one channel to the other while failure of a channel.
After introduction of this auto switching MUX with variable band width; the failures of this PRS has brought down to ‘ZERO’ in the last three months.
Improvements effected after introduction of auto switching arrangement: After introduction of auto switching arrangement with variable band width from 64 Kbps to 2 Mbps; following improvements have been effected:
·Failure of Baloda Bazaar PRS has been brought down to ‘ZERO’ during the last three months which is one of the vital Passenger Amenity.
·Enhancement of Railway earnings by way of functioning of PRS for reservations costing an amount of 1,99,733/- per month and Rs. 23,96,790/- per year.
·Prevention of loss of man hour as well economy by means of wages of supervisors and staff for an amount of Rs. 2,594/- per day, Rs. 15,564/- per month and Rs. 1,86,768/- per year who were engaged for travelling a long distance of 85 Km from Raipur to Baloda Bazaar for restoration of PRS failure.
Innovation by S&T Department in Raipur division of SECR by introduction of new Motor with Modified Gear Box to ensure smooth landing of Electric Lifting Barrier at LC Gates in Raipur division
Evolution of new Motor with Modified Gear Box: Earlier it was seen that LC Gate booms of Electric Lifting Barrier has a tendency to fall sharply and quickly while closing of LC gate.
Due to this, many cases occurred when these booms got entangled with road vehicles resulting in damage of booms and interruption of entire signaling system.
Also, due to abrupt falling of LC Gate booms, the booms get weak and over a period of time resulting in frequent breakage.
Therefore, a new motor with modified gear box has therefore been introduced and provided in LC Gate No 429 at Km 840/1-3 in Kumhari – Sarona section in Raipur division.
After provision of this motor; it is seen that the speed of falling booms has been controlled and the booms are falling smoothly while closing of LC gates. Thus both the anomalies of boom breakages have been eliminated.
Improvements effected due to new motor with modified gear box: New motor with modified gear box has been introduced to ensure smooth landing of booms while closing of LC Gates. Improvements effected after introduction of this motor are:
·Prevention of damages of Railway assets by means of preventing damages of LC gate booms costing an amount of 1,50,000/- per month and Rs. 18,00,000/- per year.
·Prevention of loss of man hour as well economy by means of wages of supervisors for an amount of Rs. 4,410/- per day, Rs. 26,460/- per month and Rs. 3,17,520/- per year who were engaged for replacement of damaged booms and restoration of signaling system.
·Enhancement of life of LC gate booms by preventing abrupt falling while closing.
